1. What Are Nutritional Labels

Nutritional labels in Apicbase allow you to print nutrition and ingredient information for your recipes. They are essential for packaged food, allergen communication, regulatory compliance, and internal production workflows.

All values shown on the label are calculated automatically based on the ingredients in the recipe. If some values are missing, verify that all ingredients have complete nutritional information.

2. Printing Nutritional and Allergen Labels in Apicbase

You can print labels from the recipe itself or from the Tools in the Recipe List view.

2.1. Printing Labels from the Allergens & Nutrition Tab

  1. Open the recipe.

  2. Go to Allergens & Nutrition.

  3. Review the nutritional table and allergen information.

  4. Click Print Label.

  5. Select the label type and proceed.

2.2. Printing Labels via the Recipe list

  1. Navigate to Recipes → Tools → Print Labels.

  2. Select a recipe.

  3. Choose the label type and proceed.

2.3. Customizing the Label Before Printing

After selecting the label format, you can fully customize the label before generating it.

Customization options include:

Language

  • Select the language in which the label should be printed.

Layout

  • For EU labels, you can edit Best Before/Use By dates and add extra information.

  • For Food Production labels, you can rename the label and modify displayed fields.

Ingredient Category Exclusion

  • Exclude specific ingredient categories (such as a custom “Non-food” category) so they do not appear on the label.

Once all customization is done, click Print.

Note: Any selected ingredient categories (for example, “Non-food”) are remembered per user. This is stored locally, so clearing your browser cache resets the selection.

3. Managing Ingredient Categories and Excluding Non-Food Items

To prevent non-food items (e.g., packaging materials) from showing on labels:

  1. Create a dedicated Non-Food ingredient category.

  2. Assign all non-food ingredients to this category.

  3. When printing labels, simply deselect the category to exclude those items.

This ensures clean, accurate labels that only show edible components.

4. Label Formats

Apicbase provides 5 standard label types.

4.1. Official EU Label

The EU label follows the standard European layout for nutritional declaration. It includes:

  • Energy and nutrient values

  • Allergen information

  • Nutri-Score (if configured)

  • Use-by / best-before dates (read more)

  • Storage conditions

You can modify the date and add extra info before printing.

4.2. US Label

The US label follows FDA-style formatting. You can also print a US Linear label.

4.3. Food Production Label

You can rename the label and display preparation date, expiry date, and produced by.

Tip: Food Production labels can also be printed directly when completing a Production Plan or when storing a semi-finished product.

4.4. Allergen Label

Shows all declared allergens in the recipe. The label also shows when and by whom it was printed.

4.5. HACCP Labels

If your the Tasks & HACCP module is available in your library, you will also be able to print Freezer, Defrost and Opened labels. These show the date on which the recipe (or ingredient) was frozen, defrosted or opened.

5. Tips for Managing Labels

  • Ensure ingredient names and simplified names are configured for clean printing.

  • Always verify nutritional completeness in ingredients before printing labels.

  • Remember that category selections are user-specific and reset on cache clear.
